Sheffield International Documentary Festival is an annual event presenting non-fiction arts and cinematography from all over the world.

The new visual identity and communication strategy for Sheffield Doc Fest was inspired by event’s strong ethos of unity, diversity and innovation.

The logo took shape of a film reel, weaved into modern typography. Animated movement of a reeling film symbolizes continuity and reflects Festival’s relentless mission of supporting diversity. It was imagined as a separate signet that can be applied on promotional materials and branded merchandise.

Colors of the visual identity refer to the modern tone of the event. We used them as filters for advertising purposes to strengthen Festival’s message. Outdoor campaigns fuse films’ compelling frames with thought-provoking rhetorical questions, keeping in line with Festival’s democratic vision for arts and emphasis on the power of critical thinking.
